TimesSelect Free For Students

The New York Times has opened up their TimesSelect online pay-for-access columns and content archive to students and teachers. According to the Editor and Publisher, free access will be permanently granted to .edu email addresses:

“It's part of our journalistic mission to get people talking on campuses,” says Vivian Schiller, senior vice president and general manager at NYTimes.com. “We wanted to open that up so that college students and professors can have a dialogue.”

Seems like a good deal to me. It's like an extended try before you buy. Four plus years of free access to the service might prepare students to pay up for a subscription when they leave school.

Students can get WhatTheyThink for free too

For those of us studying printing and graphic communication, WhatTheyThink offers free premium access membership while you are in school (you'd pay $199 for an annual membership otherwise). To take advantage of this offer, just sign-up for the 15 Day FREE Trial using your school email address and their system should grant you permanent free access to WTT's premium content.
