Let's Talk Print?

Today the Digital Printing Council of PIA/GATF released a new online forum for the printing industry:

PIA/GATF members have a new platform from which to speak their minds as the world's largest printing association unveils Let's Talk Print, a new online community destined to be the premier "go to" internet resource for everything related to print.

The new forum located at http://www.letstalkprint.com seems like a last minute slap together from the year 1999.

This new forum reminds me a lot of Thomas Greer's PrintForum, which has been providing a similar platform to the same audience for over 2 years now.

And How About Some RSS

I don't see any RSS feeds for the site. This is a missed opportunity. I'm not going to waste my time visiting the site to check for new activity. With RSS, I can have my feedreader alert me to new activity.

It will be interesting to see how the printing community responds to PIA/GATF's new service. This industry is in need of collaborative platforms that allow us to share our knowledge.

  1. Whoa. You are right–although I think 1980's would be more appropriate. Talk about missing a good opportunity.

The Printing Industry needs to hire an agency to re-brand it, as most industry related organizations look like they are about 20 years behind.

  2. Thanks for the mention, Adam. Most of the "features" of a forum are in fact driven by the particular forum software used. I think I chose well with vBulletin, which allows for considerable customization.

I don't run ads; PrintForum isn't a "business venture" for me, so I certainly don't mind the competition. In fact I wish PIA/GATF well: they certainly need a forum!

I would agree with you, though - it doesn't strike me as a particularly good implementation.

There is also http://www.digitalprintforums.com, which is much more device oriented than my PrintForum, which focuses on software and development.
