Test Targets 6

Over the weekend I finally read through Test Targets 6, RIT School of Print Media's collaborative effort exploring the use of scientific method for color imaging and process control.. Those unfamiliar with Test Targets may want to take a look at my coverage of Test Targets 5 and the entry on the release of the RIT Test Targets digital library.

Test Targets 6 is chock-full of print imaging goodness and includes a number of articles on process control and applications of color management. As with previous editions, Test Targets 6 includes a collection of pictorial images known as the Gallery of visual Interest. This collection of images tell a color management story and are a great resource for understanding color management processes and technology.

Also included in this edition is a contribution by Henry Freedman of Technology Watch, demonstrating his cross-system color match between an offset press and the NexPress 2100. Freedman has previously demonstrated this with the Xerox iGen3 and the Xerox DocuColor 8000 in his Technology Watch newsletter.

Test Targets 6 is available free online as PDF or a printed copy can be purchased through the Gravure Association of America website.

  1. What about new media? Have you, or any of your readers, any experience with using podcasts, for instance, for distributing the kind of information that would otherwise be put into brochures or white papers?

I'm a marketing copywriter (with some print industry clients) and I've seen a groundswell of interest in podcasts, but it's a new field. No one has much experience or trustworthy statistics, or ways to get the word out about what they're doing.

  2. Test Targets does not focus on new media. It's area of research and exploration is color imaging. You might want to take a look at Pew Internet & American Life Project or the Poynter Institute.
