The Power of Print
Liz Lawley, a professor in IT at RIT recently ordered Moo Minicards and posted her thoughts after receiving them:
They. Are. Beautiful.
Wow.
Liz's reaction to a printed piece of paper does pretty good job of summing up of the power of the printed medium in the new world.
I give Liz's comments so much weight, because she is immersed in electronic communication and the web. She is an expert in the field that many say is destroying print.
Though a simple web interface, Liz has at her at her finger tips a medium that is differentiated from the emails, web pages and other electronic communication that bombards her on a daily basis. And nows she's going to have some fun:
Just realized I could take some screen shots of my WoW avatar in various locations around Azeroth and use them to create special gam3r cards. w00t!
This is an important story that all the web-to-print technology marketers overlook: Web-enabled print is not just about streamlined production of personalized marketing collateral. The emergence of efficient web-based workflow systems are creating new markets for print and reinventing the way people use print.
