Testing Web-enabled Print
A part of my thesis involves analyzing current implementations of web-enabled print. The analysis will provide the basis as I attempt to create a model and taxonomy that describes the current state of the state-of-the-art.
I have created a standardized set of digital assets (images, photos, text) that will be used to test a number of web-to-print service providers.
In the next couple of weeks I will be running my test assets through the following services:
- Lulu
- Blurb
- MagicPrints
- MyPublisher
- Printingforless.com
- VistaPrint
- Flickr
- QOOP.com
- 48hourprint.com
- Mimeo.com
- moo
All of the services in my current sample provide walk up order processing (they don't require an established business relationship to order printed products). This sample excludes a number of the commercial printers that have engineered custom solutions or implemented off-the-shelf web-enabled workflow technology to meet the needs of their established customer base.
If you have used a service not listed above, your company has a web-enabled workflow or know of a company that utilizes web-enabled workflow technology leave a comment or drop me a line. I will look into including them in my workflow tests.

Sounds like a cool thesis topic. Although, all these services are so different from eachother. How (if at all) do you plan on breaking these up into sub-groups.

The sample is disparate by design. This will hopefully give me a better understanding of the wide range of systems being implemented in the industry.
