GRACoL G7 Masters

The GRACoL MasterPrinter Program name is being changed to the GRACoL G7 Masters Program in order to expand its scope:

The MasterPrinter Program is being extended and renamed to be the G7Masters Program. The program will now include both printers and those providing proofs using the G7 Method.

Some concerns have been raised over some of the wording in GRACoL's definition of the MasterPrinter Program (emphasis mine):

The IDEAlliance MasterPrinter qualification program will identify those printing companies who have been trained to print to ISO standards using the new G7 Methodology and can produce a press sheet to GRACoL or SWOP aims within acceptable tolerances.

Some members of the Printing Across Borders (PAB) discussion list have pointed out that a key concept in ISO 12647-2 is the control of TVI and that the new G7 method does not follow the tolerances of ISO 12647-2:2004.

According to a posting on the PAB list today by Dianne Kennedy of IDEAlliance, these concerns will be addressed in future G7 documentation:

Based on happenings at the TC130 WG3 ISO meeting in Berlin, in the future we look forward to providing specific references to the applicable portions of proposed Amendment to ISO 12647-2 and the proposed ISO Tech Spec that will include the FOGRA TVI method, the Gray-balance NPDC (G7) method and the ICC device link method for printing process control when those documents are completed and can be referenced.
