Google Books

According to a Reuters report, book publishers are reporting an increase in sales for titles indexed by Google Books:

Publishers are starting to report an uptick in sales from Google Inc.'s online program that lets readers peek inside books, two years after the launch of its controversial plan to digitally scan everything in print. (Book sales get a lift from Google scan plan)

Anybody that understands consumer buying habits could have predicted this, and I'm surprised publishers with all their marketing data and analysis failed to see Google Books potential to drive product discovery and sales.

Consumers like to look and try before they buy. The pre-sale peek is a big reason the brick and mortar bookstores are still in business. Google Books enables a person to do the pre-sale peek at their convenience from virtually anywhere (E.g at home sitting on your couch in your underwear).
