Acrobat 8
Adobe has introduced Acrobat 8 and once again reminded the printing industry that PDF was not invented for them. Most of the new features in Acrobat 8 are centered around providing tools to help business users collaborate and create documents with team members in real time:
To get their jobs done, knowledge workers in engineering, legal, sales & marketing, finance, human resources, IT and other professions need access to high-value information. Often, that information is obtained through shared documents, forms, 3D designs, spreadsheets, and presentations; in meetings; or through other means.
The Acrobat 8 product line helps users initiate, manage, and organize ad-hoc collaboration by creating and sharing content-rich documents; combining multiple files into a single, polished Adobe PDF document; managing and organizing feedback to expedite document collaboration; collecting and exchanging high-value information; and controlling document access with confidence.
Adobe didn't completely over look the needs of the printing industry. Acrobat 8 brings improvements to PDF/X and JDF support:
In addition to supporting industry-standard PDF/X-1a and PDF/X-3 files, Acrobat 8 Professional now outputs PDF/X-4 for native transparency support, as well as PDF/A for long-term archiving.
Acrobat 8 will be available later this year standalone or as part of Adobe Creative Suite 2.3

What is the need for the printing industry if not better tools for communication in the document creation phase?
