More on Printed Pringles
I've rounded up some more information on the printed Pringles I wrote about last month.
Edward Chrusciel, Director of Marketing, FUJIFILM Dimatix, Inc was on the August 8th installment of the Inside Print Radio show. During the segment, he talked briefly about ink jet applications on food such as Pringles Prints.
Chrusciel's comments lead me to Spectra Technology Integration website, the industrial ink jet printing division of FUJIFILM Dimatix, Inc and the technology provider for Pringles Prints line of Pringles crisps. See the Dimatix press release (PDF) for more info.
According to the Dimatix website, the Spectra - Merlin FG (PDF) is their system for printing on food products:
The Spectra - Merlin FG is designed for non-impact,
direct, variable imaging and decoration of food products
using edible food grade colorants. Text, photos or a
combination of both can be imaged directly onto the
surface of the product without any intermediary steps and
without contact.

The system uses a special food colorant developed by Spectra Technology Integration called Tapestry (PDF).
There is a plethora of information about the system and process on the FUJIFILM Dimatix's website.
