MasterPrinter Program
The folks at IDEAlliance and GRACoL have decided to get involved in the quality auditing business:
The International Digital Enterprise Alliance (IDEAlliance) today announced the launch of its new MasterPrinter Program. Through this program, IDEAlliance will identify printers around the world who print to standards using the new G7 proof-to-print process.
I think many printers will wonder if this is a move by IDEAlliance and GRACoL to create make work for the GRACoL Experts. I think the answer is a solid yes and I'm not sure if this is a bad thing. The Experts need ROI on the certification costs and printers benefit by getting an objective 3rd-party stamp of approval on the quality of their print production.
One sentenced jumped out at me as I read the press release:
The reach of the program is global. G7 Experts now can be found throughout the US, Canada, Latin America, Australia and Asia.
For some reason Europe is missing from that sentence. I wonder why?
Certifying print operations is nothing new, UGRA has offered ISO certification services for a number of years in Europe. It will be interesting to see how the US printing industry reacts to a quality certification service.
