Kodak: 10 Years of CTP

Kodak is celebrating tens years of Thermal CTP:

Kodak's commercialization of the world's first thermal computer to plate (CTP) system occurred in 1996, touching off a fast moving transformation of printing that helped shorten turnaround times, reduce costs, and improve quality for printers and their customers around the world. Thermal CTP technology, which was invented by Kodak, celebrates its 10th anniversary in 2006, as Kodak continues to lead the industry with innovative new CTP solutions.

CTP has got to be one the breakthrough innovations of the last 10 years in the printing industry and has lend to multiple paradigm shifts in the manufacturing of printed products: adoption of digital prepress, workflow automation, standardized data exchange formats, and fostering the wide spread adoption of reference printing conditions.

What breakthrough innovations will be celebrating in 10 years from now? Will it be the high quality digital press from Xerox, NexPress, and HP. Or JDF? Or how about web-enbaled print production workflows? What about printed electronics?
