ColorSync Payback Assessment

On Friday I linked (in my blinks feed) to an Abhay Sharma interview on GAIN. The interview is a good 50,000 foot look at Color Management and a must read for print shop and premedia management.

When dealing with color management, a lot of managers hesitate at the price tag of implementing a full-blown color management system. I've witnessed this in my work experience and have had this confirmed by colleagues in the industry.

What's an easy way to get management to buy into something? Show them the ROI. And GAIN asked the question in the interview:

GAIN: How can companies calculate a return on their investment on software, hardware, and training?

Sharma: There is only one publicly available document that I have seen. It is a bit old now, but it is still very good. If anyone is interested to try and locate the document it is called ColorSync Payback Assessment(GISTICS Incorporated, 1999).

A simple Google search will return results that will you allow you to download the GISTICS white paper. Or you can go directly to the PDF:

I haven't had a chance to read it yet, hopefully I can squeeze it into my schedule sometime this week.

Abhay Sharma's Understanding Color Management is a must read for the modern print professional.
